EDUCATION & WORKFORCE · AEROSPACE · QUERÉTARO

THE CONTEXT: Mexico was building infrastructure to become a world-class aerospace player. The Federal and State governments recognized the critical need for a public aerospace trade school — the first of its kind in the country.

THE EVEREST GROUP ROLE: The Everest Group was awarded the contract to design and manage the construction of UNAQ — a 330,100 sq.ft. facility spreading over 49.4 acres, designed on the concept of a Factory-School.

THE SCOPE Large factory-like manufacturing bays for hands-on practice, laboratories, material warehouses, classrooms, and academic and administrative areas — all conceived and delivered by The Everest Group’s Architectural & Engineering team.

THE RESULT: UNAQ delivered its first graduates in 2009 and has since become the cornerstone of Mexico’s aerospace workforce pipeline, training the engineers and technicians that today power an industry with 400+ companies nationwide.

“As a Mexican national, I take pride in participating in such a once-in-a-life-time project. This public Aerospace School has no equivalent in the whole country.”
— Enrique Barrios, Everest Manager of Architectural & Engineering

Centro Aeroespacial de Zacatecas

EDUCATION & WORKFORCE · AEROSPACE · ZACATECAS

THE CONTEXT: The State of Zacatecas understood that the best support a government can provide to its aerospace industry is a pool of highly qualified workers.

THE EVEREST GROUP ROLE: In early 2009, the State mandated The Everest Group — on the basis of its vast experience establishing the UNAQ — to develop every aspect of this new aerospace trades college.

THE SCOPE Development of course curricula, academic material preparation, tools and machinery procurement, facility design and commissioning, student screening and enrollment, and complete program management.

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY: This college is not like any other school — its programs and facilities are developed to recreate a real factory environment and to emphasize competency development through a high level of hands-on practice.

PROGRAMS DELIVERED: Aerospace Basics (80 hrs), Composite Materials (6 months), Basic Machining (10 months), CNC Machining (8 months), Fabrication (12 months) — each concluding with a 3-month industry internship.

THE RESULT: The school accepted its first students in early 2010, providing Zacatecas with a specialized workforce pipeline for its growing aerospace sector.

Relocating Production From Three Continents

AEROSPACE · RELOCATION · SUPPLY CHAIN · QUERÉTARO

THE CHALLENGE: Major aerospace OEMs were struggling with globalized supply chains — waiting weeks for parts by ship from Asia or paying exorbitant fees for cargo jets, which delayed aircraft delivery.

THE PROJECT: The Everest Group directed the relocation of complex aerospace component manufacturing from Japan, Taiwan, and Belfast, Northern Ireland into Querétaro, Mexico. Simultaneously, Everest developed the International Aerospace Supplier Park at the Querétaro International Airport.

THE RESULT: This strategic nearshoring specifically supported the production of 50-seat corporate and commercial jets — including the Bombardier Challenger programs — drastically reducing logistical bottlenecks.

THE RIPPLE EFFECT: Rather than setting up isolated plants, Everest consulted with OEMs to strategically attract their Tier-1 and Tier-2 suppliers — CNC machining, titanium parts, and special surface treatments — to co-locate in Mexico, unlocking the entire local supply chain.
